Dr. Nolan has a special interest in helping patients with eczema as her 2 young daughters have struggled with moderate-severe eczema since they were infants. She understands what it is like to be on the other side with chronic itching and sleepless nights.
Atopic dermatitis, often referred to as eczema is a common chronic condition. It often starts in young children, but can persist into adulthood. It affects more than 9.6 million children and about 16.5 million adults in the United States. It can cause chronic itching, rashes, and significantly affect quality of life.
We treat many variants of eczema including contact dermatitis, which is due to allergies in the skin, hand eczema, nummular dermatitis which often causes itchy red spots on the legs, perioral dermatitis which causes rashes around the mouth, as well as many others.
At Carabella Dermatology we have an integrative and comprehensive approach to the various types of eczema. Our treatment plans involve prescription as well as non-prescription therapies. Many types of eczema are due to underlying problems with the components of the skin barrier and we help patients improve that as well through improving hydrating of the skin, probiotic supplementation and avoidance of allergens and chemicals. We also discuss the potential role of allergens, bacteria, and diet when appropriate.
